Walt Disney Studios has jumped on the bandwagon
and secured the rights to the exciting book “The Finest Hours,” written by
Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias. Based on a true story, the screenplay is
written by Academy Award® nominees Paul Tamsay & Eric Johnson and Academy
Award® nominee Scott Silver.
The film is an adventure/ thriller that will be
filmed in Massachusetts, near to the actual incident. One of the biggest and
most severe storms ever to hit New England landed in February of 1952. An oil
tanker that was out to sea was ripped in half off the coast of Cape Cod! Icy
winds and 70 foot high waves washed over the stricken and sinking ship,
threatening disaster at any minute. Into a small rescue boat went four Coast
Guard men who set out to save more than 30 sailors stranded on the
barely-floating ship.
It was a nearly impossible task for the men of
the Coast Guard, but it was a heroic effort never before seen on the high seas.
It is still considered the greatest small boat rescues in Coast Guard history.
The Finest Hours will be directed by Craig
Gillespie, who did such a good job on his film Lars and the Real Girl. Jim Whitaker (Cinderella Man) and Dorothy Aufiero (The Fightere) will produce.
The outstanding cast includes Chris Pine (a
graduate of UC Berkeley’s Theatre Arts Dept. and star of Star Trek), Academy Award® nominee Casey Affleck (Ocean’s Thirteen), and Holliday Grainger
(Cinderella).
The Finest Hours will be released in the Fall
of 2015.
Disney Comedy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible,
No Good, Very Bad Day arrives October 10
The hilarious comedy from the Walt Disney
Studios follows the exploits of 11 year-old Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) who is
experiencing the worst day of his young life. One calamity after another
follows him around after he first gets gum stuck in his hair that morning.
Totally unsympathetic are his mom (Jennifer
Garner) and his dad (Steve Carell). Even worse are his brother (Dylan Minnette)
and sister (Kerris Dorsey). They all seem to be living through their own,
personal bad days. Alexander must get through his own problems on his own in
this very funny family film as directed by Miguel Arteta (The Good Girl)
In an advanced release on October 7, the
soundtrack on Walt Disney records will be available and will include an
original song from British Pop Rock Band The Vamps, a Musical Score by
Christophe Beck, and songs from two of the film’s stars.
